Action has now been taken by Peterborough City Council, following calls from local LIB DEM ward councillor, Darren Fower, who was one of the first on site and reported it to the officers at the Town Hall.
Officers at the Town Hall told Cllr Fower, “..contractors were instructed to attend site…….. They successfully found the blockage and removed it. The subway is now pumping down but will take a little while to clear due to the amount of water and rubbish that has collected.”
Commenting, Darren added:
“I’m glad that action has been taken to ensure that this particular flooding is drained, but I think that some thing extra needs to be done by the City Council to prevent a similar event occuring in the near future.
“For some, the underpass is a lifeline through to the rest of the South Werrington community, amenities and facilities, hence if it gets blocked then some residents could face some real problems.
“I have now thanked the Council for their response, but asked what action they intend to take to take to prevent another flooding in the near future, for example better drain covers, regular checks etc?”
