Bus shelters 4 The Green (Werrington) + Coniston Rd (Gunthorpe) added 2 Council’s database

Local LIB DEM ward councillor, Darren Fower tells us that the two requests he raised with the City Council for a bus shelter at the stop located on The Green (pictured) and on Coniston Road (between Elter Walk and Borrowdale Close) have now been added to the City Councils database.

Commenting, Cllr Darren Fower said:

“If we are to attract more people to using buses then shelter while they wait should be paramount in any planned action. Council officers have now confirmed with me that the bus stop improvements have been placed on the database and points will then be allocated.

“It seems each request is scored to give a list of stops in priority. The methodology process takes into account how many services serve the stop, if it is near a hospital or shopping centre etc.

“I’m hopeful that as the stop on The Green is served by Citi 1 it will score quite highly and will be looked at for the 13/14 financial year. While the stop on Coniston Road I’m hopeful will also do well as it has the number 2 service which is also well used. If either stops do not score highly then I will be looking to see whether the Council can simply relocate shelters that are on routes that are no longer used.”

Cllr Darren Fower is now due to meet with Council officers and see if they can come to an agreement for action before the end of the year and before the really bad winter weather arrives!
